Enjoy its magnificent views of Manhattan, some old ruins and landmarks.

The walk includes: the tram ride, the Lighthouse, the small pox hospital,
the Strecker Laboratory, and the Octagon Tower (the remains of the Lunatic Asylum), just to name a few.

Saturday April 26. We will meet 1:00 P.M. at the Tram entrance (60th Street and 2nd Ave).

My first meet-up, very pleasant, very kind people: thanks to the two folks who lent me quarters for the bus; the gentleman who helped me down the hill, and the other gentleman who showed me how to adjust the manual exposure on my camera! (I'm terrible with names, but I remember the faces and appreciate all gestures and kindnesses!) A very nice group of people, will make more meetings for sure.

Shamed to say 1st time there: Born in Brooklyn in '59! Had a great time tagging along as a guest where I just joined the day after. There was much to photograph most of which was out from the island's unusual vantage point. Great people! Let's do a late lunch. We did! What's next? Thank "The Barb"

Can you still go to the small pox hospital and the Strecker Laboratory? I was just reading that area of the island has been closed to public access since 2002.

I adjusted the meet up limit size (again) as this event filled up very quickly. As I expect the typical meet up "no shows" this should be not problem. Hope you can make it.

    •  This was an excellent event. Photographing the ruins was always in the back of my mind so there was no way I was going miss this.
    •  great meetup! great day! interesting bit of history along with great photo opportunities! :)
    •  Barbara, thank-you for an exciting, thought-provoking and really over-the-top experience. To think.... all these years a New Yorker and I never knew what existed just a tram-ride away!! And congratulations, too, for your 'in' with the weatherman!!! Can't wait til the next meetup! :) Francine
    •  This was a very good meetup. It was well planned and well received by all those who attended.
    •  Pretty good, well orgenized. Informative. Well done.
    •  my grandmother worked and died at the Smallpox Hospital in quarantine. I had never walked those grounds and it was a very emotional trip for me which i cut short. I'm afraid i was not able to speak to the attendees, yet I managed to take shots, and was impressed by the turnout.

I thought the content of the trip was very nice, but it would have been nice if the guide was a little easier to be understood (megaphone would have been helpful for such a large group). It would have been nice if there was a moment for people to briefly introduce themselves, or maybe to wear "hello" tags. Other then this the day was very nice and it was cool to be amongst people with similar interests.
    •  Had a blast with the people. Enjoyed the trip to a part of the city i do not often get to.
    •  well planned and leader was excellant
    •  Nice day for a good walk - interesting place that many NYC'ers have probbaly never been to... Was fun!
    •  A great fun trip, well planned and much too see

The organizer was great. Very well planed. Met some very nice people and have a wonderful time at my first meet-up with this group. I am looking forward to another one.
    •  I had a good time and met some very nice people. I don't know how much I love having that many other photographers walking around at the same time - I ended up getting a few too many pictures with them in them! But I do like the motivation this experience provides. I would definitely keep attending these events for awhile -- I think the organizer did an excellent job. There were a few weirdos with a bit too much negative commentary -- for example - commenting aloud that our subject matter was lacking - but they can leave any time they want! Why didn't they? lol
