“ I came away with knowing some new tricks and that I needed to shoot in RAW for my next camera. Using the fill flash more often is something I have forgotten over the years. The handouts mentioned practice, practice, practice and I am also negligent in that area. Questions and answers we good from my in-experienced background. Maybe some critique of the students work would be of help as many are not and will not be professional Travel Photographers. The handout tips to carry with me are good and I plan on looking at them to refresh my memory prior to my shooting "sessions". All-in-all, I thought the session was good for my level of experience. ”
“ Jeff Luhn is obviously a very experienced photographer with many appropriate example photographs to share and make points by example. The advance description of this Meetup included addressing the right equipment, providing a pocket shooting guide and handout, and discussing file formats and naming conventions. Those were as anticipated.
Also described were discussions of hardbound travel books, captions, and page layouts. While sample books were distributed for viewing, that part of the session left some attendees wanting much more information. In addition, We found that, although we brought cameras to class, there was really no photo-taking activity during the session.
I found many useful nuggets of information provided during the event, including specific travel photo related suggestions. Good advice from someone who has "been there and done that" is always welcome. Presentation of some of the points seemed rather disorganized, however, and I was disappointed that the presentation of travel photos received less emphasis than I had expected. In all, the net impression was positive and I'll make an effort to use fill flash more effectively, a suggestion which received special emphasis. ”
“ There were two people that expressed some disappointments about the class. That's never happened for me in 25 years of teaching. Sadly, the wireless network was not functioning for the class, so I was not able to demonstrate the layout procedures I'd prepared. That was an unexpected problem. I extend an invitation to all students in took the class to join me in a free meeting in a location with a wireless network where I can cover the missing material by going through the layout process. My studio is suitable for that, but Santa Cruz may be inconvenient for some people. If a place over the hill can be found, I'll meet there. My goal for these classes is to raise the standard of photography for the students. It's not a big money maker for me. I'm perfectly willing to put another 4 hours into the project at no cost to the students if it will be of benefit. Let's get it organized and I'll be there! Contact me if you're interested. “ I feel Jeff is a throughly experienced photgrapher.
But I feel his presentation of material was lacking.
The photos he showed were clearly not thought out.
I do think he has the ability and knowledge to share, just needs to work on the class.
It should not take 4 hours to teach "Use Fill Flash and or reflector"
I was deeply disappointed in the class expecially for the price ”
“ I attended the meeting because I need help organizing large amount of photos I take on vacation, doing a photobook, getting great vacation photos, and getting difficult shots indoors. I came away feeling like I got great informatin on composition of people shots out of doors--which I don't do a great deal of. However, I didn't get enough information on photobooks, landscape, indoor shots, and organization. I got some great tips and still well worth the money! Jeff is obviously an accomplished photographer!!! Perhaps I misread the emphasis of this workshop. ”
