Twilight Shootout & Meetup!

Xavier Lanier and I got to talking a bit after last months meetup, he expressed his keen interest in helping to organize a Shootout and get a chance to meet all the local photogs and introduce them to Notebook.com as a resource. Xavier has been in touch with HP and is very excited about their new laptop the HP Envy 15 - HP and Intel have joined him in hosting our after party!

Come join us for a twilight shoot in Dolores Park - we'll have a chance to capture an interesting view of the SF Cityscape and document the flavor of the Mission at the Golden Hour...
be sure not to miss the afterparty @ Medjools Sponsored by HP and Intel and Notebook.com - with a giveaway of some amazing prizes including 1 new HP ENVY 15!!!

We will start at the Top End of Delores Park, at the corner of Church and 20th 4 PM- well really, meet a few steps away, in the area of the tree lined corner of the park! Look for tripods!
We'll talk for a minute about making images of the cityscape during long exposure offer a few tips to people in need of inspiration.

From there, we'll move around the park together capturing different views and the color of the City.
I'm positive there will be some great low-light, long exposure opportunities to shoot in store...

Be sure to shoot and be as creative as possible - you will be making images to to enter into the host's Giveaway! Favorite pic of the Shootout (from the evening) wins a $2000 HP ENVY 15 laptop computer... other prizes will be awarded as well.

Also, Terry will be on hand to give us a quick hot-shoe flash demo on how he created his latest 'Spy' Themed model shots.

After shooting the park, Around 6:00 pm we will photo-walk down 20th street about 6 blocks, shooting all the while, to Medjool 2522 Mission St, San Francisco, CA‎.
HP, Intel and Xavier will host us with some snacks on the rooftop (where we can shoot some more) smile. Choose your best shot, load it onto a computer - we will project the image on a screen and vote on the best images of the night! Details of giveaway at meetup.

I enjoyed this event very much and loved our reception. I'm glad for all the winners that got their prizes, however I still did not receive mines from Xavier as promised. Does anyone have any way to contact him? I've sent messages to him, no response...

@Lidiya, Borrowlenses.com has them for $9 for a 3-day rental period. The company is giving us some gift cards for this event. I'm sure Calumet has them at a decent price as well.

It was well organized, and just a great idea all around. I was unable to go to the after-party, yet I still had a blast!

    •  I had a great time, met some great people and shared a lot of information! Wonderful evening!
    •  Well-organized meetup! Thanks so much for putting effort on this...
    •  Great idea, lots of contacts, delicious food and lovely atmosphere.
    •  Great location, exciting photo opportunity, excellent choice of post shoot party, conversation.
    •  I had a really great time. The fire dancers were a nice surprise. I met a few new people (which is always great), and I saw some great photos @ Medjool. That rooftop is a great place to have a party, and a great place to win a gift certificate! :-) Thanks to Sheila, Xavier and everyone else for organizing it.

Very fun meetup. Lots of people shooting. Great subjects - fire dancing! Guess that's what happens when a laptop is at stake. Thx to HP/Intel for sponsoring the party @ Medjool-awesome!
    •  Very good location and photo ops with the fire dancers. Also the after shootout party was pretty good too. The only negative I have were the technical issues of getting all photos to show up on the projector (probably not avoidable with all the various manufacturers and models).
    •  WOW! the laptop is amazing!
    •  Thanks Sheilah for putting this together and getting everyone excited about photography! I couldn't make it to the after party, but the fire dancers and skyline were excellent subjects.
    • Bob Tamura (+1 guest)
First time attending. Wasn't sure if there was a theme as far as shoot out was concerned. Fire dancers was a cool subject.
    •  It is great to have corporate sponsers!!!! :)
    • Adam Brill (+1 guest)
This was one of the most fun things I have done in San Francisco. Great crowd, great event, and I learned so much!
    •  My first meetup and it was a blast! A nice group of people with a common interest (photography) at many skill levels, a beautiful view from one of my favorite spots in the city, 3 firedancers, antique streetcars, cameras everywhere......wouldn't change a thing! Great job, organizers! Larry
    • Robert Mendiola (+1 guest)
Congratulations to Sheila she did a great job putting this together. She kept a secret that she was having fireball dancers for the "challenge" . Nice prices to the winners too
    •  It was way better than expected!!! I was expecting to shoot just the city skyline and was met with a surprise of an outstanding performance of poi spinners! I LOVED IT! Then it was followed by a rooftop dinner and photo contest! I am speechless!
    •  Shooting was great, people were great, party was great.
    •  Great meet-up idea. Very well organized. Thanx, Shelah, Robin, Xavier. Added bonus of fire dancers was very appreciated. Twilight sunset was perfect!
    • David (+1 guest)
This was my second event and it was a blast. It was great to meet all the photographers out there and see how they all shot a similar subject such as the fire dancers. The prizes and sponsorship were great and best of all the projector presentation was really fun to see the photos everyone took. It would have been awesome to see a bit more of the lighting flash techniques setup by Tray, however all in all it was a great day.
    •  It was my first meetup and it was awesome. I really liked meeting other people that are into photography. Looking forward to the next meetup.
    • Adam Oliver (+1 guest)
Amazing! Had an awesome time. The fire dancers and tonights group of people were a great mix. Lots of friendly photographers and a fun shoot! The event at Medjools was also really enjoyable.
