Illuminate Yaletown - Outdoor Winter Party - Music - And More
Location: Corner of Nelson and Mainland Street
Event Time: 5:30PM - 9:30PM
Cost: FREE

On February 21, 2009, for one thought provoking evening, light art will illuminate Yaletown. Cutting edge technology will mix with vibrant music and artistic vision to inspire and impress. All this in the epicenter of Vancouver’s hippest neighborhood.

illuminate yaletown will be a free public event, featuring local and international lighting designers and leaders in lighting technology, as well as unforgettable music from DJ Leanne creating contemporary light-art-music installations in Yaletown. As the winter sun sets early, bringing the edge of darkness, illuminate yaletown rises to extend warmth and light into the urban centre.

Ranging from interactive videos, to exciting rhythms and silent perspectives, the installations will evoke emotion and dialog. This will be Vancouver as it has never been experienced before.

The first annual illuminate yaletown is designed to be a showcase for creative talent, forcing us all to see our city from the perspective of artists. How will light blend with music? What colour should night be? How can we play with light? illuminate yaletown is an event that will encourage urbanites to discover a truly cosmopolitan experience, and be among the first to launch this winter tradition.

Bring your camera, tripod, lenses and remote shutter releases to capture the sights and lights of this most unusual downtown event. We'll be assembling at the same location as Vancouver Activity Group but feel free to pursue your own path at your own speed. Don't forget to post your 10 best to the Album after the event.

We rode our bikes down, thank goodness. We didn't get there until 6... so didn't meet anyone, didn't know about the scarf-dress-code, so just saw friends we met and a lot of cameras with tri-pods. I thought it was fun to be out, regardless... I thought it was funny that cars were actually trying to drive through there. Thanks for a great idea!

The weather was very nice and the long scarves were a sight to behold. The lights? Not enough. Maybe next year will be better. Illuminate Vancouver 2009 http://www.flickr.com/photo...

My sincerest apologies to those who waited for me at the start. We just couldn't get downtown in time and it was impossible to find parking nearby. Had to walk in from the foot of HORNBY! I hope those of you who showed up will forgive me for not being there to greet you and did walk around enjoying the sights and sounds of this event. Next year, I promise, I'll make it easier to locate the group and I'll be there on time.

Let's make it easy to spot one another in the crowd: Members of the Photography Group will be wearing the brightest, boldest, most colourful scarves they have. Scour your closest for that forgotten beauty hiding at the back. I'll have mine!

I'll have my bright pink umbrella with me, fair or foul weather, so you can find us at the start point.
