Every year hundreds of crazy people plunge into English Bay on New Year's Day. Why? Because it's there! And they've been doing this for 90 years!!!
I went for a dip last year with one brave Meetup member and 2000+ strangers in costumes and swimgear. It was such a blast that I've decided to do it again! YOU are invited to come with me into the tepid waters of English Bay on New Years Day. OR you can stay on shore (chicken!) and cheer me on. I'll need help getting warmed up after, too!
Lunch first at noon at Mr. Pickwicks on Denman. Yummy fish and chips. Some say the best in the city!
Register and rally on the beach at English Bay at 2:00 pm. I'll try to secure a spot close to the fence on the south side of the area for swimmers. Look for my pink umbrella before the swim.
Be ready to take the plunge at 2:30 pm sharp.
Get in, get wet, get out, get dry. Question your sanity later...
Bring a towel and a change of clothes (store them in a cooler or thermal bag).
You get a badge for participating if you signed up for the event beforehand.
Afterward, indulge in gourmet hot chocolate at Dulcinea on Denman to thaw us from the inside.
If the weather is nice, we could take a walk around town and enjoy the day. What a great way to spend New Years Day afternoon.
