Hi everyone,
In this thread we'll build a list of learning workshops, presentations, knowledge sharing events, seminars, lectures, gear clinics, etc... to this one post. Add to this thread only new or additional topics for learning workshops, etc. Be succinct. I will consolidate to this list and delete your posts later. This is NOT for field trips shoots... if you wish to suggest a recreational field trip, do so here -- Future list of workshops and knowledge sharing events: Beginner Studio Workshops * Studio shoot (where participants watch and ask questions during a shoot) * Portrait clinic (where participants take turns shooting portaits of each other) Lectures/speakers on specific subjects (speakers can be from our own membership, or local college, high school, or other programs) * Introductory presentation to image editing software such as Krita * Lighting * Composition * Approach Clinics with knowledgeable members helping out * Photoshop (where everyone brings a laptop and PS project) * Printers, SLR cameras (either in shop or at studio lab, where we all examine and play with gear) * Lighting clinic (where some of us bring lighting equipment and we all participate, play and learn) * Group visit to a camera store to shop for a new DSLR camera Proposed Roundtables * Privacy and street shooting Other * Members showing their work in slideshow presentations * Art book research at library or bookstore * Group visit to gallery shows, with discussion afterward ...add more workshop topics to this thread. Be succinct. I will consolidate to this list and delete your suggestion later. Please no discussions (discuss on other threads if you like, such as this one). Thanks. I would love to have an instructional meetup where some of you who have more experience could show the beginners how to set up shots etc. Also would really like to have a basic instruction on what to look for in my first Digi SLR. (thinking Nikon D40)

Color-Travel Photography Workshop
with Stuart Dee August 22-24, 2008 Back by popular demand, this workshop is suited for all levels, from beginning amateurs to more advanced photographers. It includes informal discussions, slide presentations, demonstrations, and critiques of student work. A major part of the workshop is spent shooting on location. Students will have a lot of free time outdoors, using beautiful Vancouver as a subject to try new tips, ideas and techniques learned during the workshop. His work is represented internationally by Getty Images, and has been published in countless magazines and ads worldwide (see his credits on the back side). Sharpening your Photographic Vision: For great photography, the most essential requirement is great vision. Participants will not only learn to see in new ways but also gain a solid foundation to support their vision and to encourage a more creative and intelligent approach to picture-making. Visual perception, colour theory, light and lighting, aesthetics, composition, film, metering, filters, camera controls, digital imaging, basic Photoshop controls and other topics may be discussed in relation to creating great travel images, including people, animals, nature, cities, landscapes, close-ups or architecture. Travel and Stock Photography: Topics may include: preparing for travel, location shooting, equipment, photographing in foreign countries, model releases, covering a destination, shooting styles, how to shoot stock, bestsellers, copyright, how to sign on with an agency, getting your work published. We are also planning international travel workshops for next year, so please contact us if you are interested.
