From the Tennessee RenFest web site.

Travel back to 16th Century England. Our Village of Covington Glen comes alive with the bustle of a Renaissance Marketplace. Over 60 skilled Artisians from all over the country display their wares from silks to swords, gems to jewels. Flavors, aromas and tastes of specialty foods and drinks greet the festival-goer. Hear the sounds of Renaissance musicians and merrymakers as they echo through the trees. Color, movement, and peals of laughter welcome those who thrill to the challenges of Games of Skill and Man-Powered Rides.

The the theme for the weekend of the May 16th is Pirate Invasion.

This will be my first Renfest, so I am not sure about where to meet. The safest bet would be to say in the parking lot close to the gates around 2 PM.

Tickets are 18.00 for a 1 day adult pass and 16.00 if purchased in advance.

PLEASE READ

These meetups are put together so that members can meet other photographers and share ideas and have fun shooting. While most everyone is willing to share their knowledge of photography, PLEASE understand that this is NOT a PHOTOGRAPHY CLASS! Come to the meetups - Ask Questions - Make Friends and most importantly HAVE FUN doing what you love to do.

Thanks,
Donna

For anyone who is still interested in going, I got a complimentary pass since I didn't even make it inside & I intend to use it. Either today (Sunday the 17th) or next weekend. If anyone is interested let me know. I can be there in 30-45 minutes so just let me know, either here or email [masked]

It all depends on the weather! Not looking good though.

Well... I'm not sure if I'm going to this today after all. Weather is calling for severe storms all day... inlcuding hail! I'll have to play the day by ear! I hope it clears out and I get to see you all! I'm kind of bummed that Mike_tn finally was going to join us and now I may not get to meet him after all!

I should also add, the castle is awesome. (The person that does the ren fest built it as his house...) However, as I recall from before, the last bus over to it was at like 4.30, so you guys might want to hit it first if you want to go there.

Mike - They won't let you bring in any food/drinks at all. Not sure you'd get trail mix through if hidden. A lot of the grounds are somewhat wooded, but there are a lot of open sun areas too. I went three years ago and it was HOT. Multiple people were being tended to for heat related issues. I would wear sunscreen anyway, and be prepared to shell out for lots of liquids.. I know this isn't a jousting weekend, but the area around the joust court, the castle, etc, are all open. Very open.

What kind of gear do people suggest? Monopod & handheld support, meaning no tripods is best due to crowds. I hear it is wooded with paths (no sunscreen required, maybe expect shaded photos?). And no food/containers outside, wonder if that means you can carry in like a ziplock of trail mix and eat it indoors but that's it, you have to buy their food or eat your own in your car on the way if you want? Im clueless, my first one. PS The advanced date has passed to get online tickets

    •  I'm sure the Festival itself would have been great, the only problem was I never got to see it. Got my ticket, stood talking to a fellow meetup, waiting for others, then the bottom fell out and we stood on a bridge in the rain for the better part of an hour before I decided it wasn't going to 'pass by.' Oh well, better luck next time.
    •  If at all possible, I won't offer a rating. This meetup was probably ill-fated from the start due to weather. I arrived at the meeting time and saw only two other members at the front gate. I waited until about 2:25 and went to put a big lens in my car, planning to return to the venue. About five minutes later, the sky opened up and it just poured, thunder, lightning, wind, you name it. I waited in my car for about 15 minutes and then decided to leave when I saw other cars having a tough time getting out of the field we were in. So... it's hard to say how this went. It was my first meetup, but to be fair the weather pretty much messed it up. It won't influence me to not try another one. (I had to pick a rating so I just selected Great as a default because it did have great potential)
