Old Stone Fort

Junes Meetup is going to be at Old Stone Fort park located an 1 hours drive from Nashville, down I-24 in Manchester, Tn. We will meet at the main trail parking area at 10 AM. (YES I said 10 AM) You might want to consider grabbing a few friends to Car-Pool with.

OLD STONE FORT
This is a great archeological area with plenty of beautiful rock formations made of many different types of rock including slate. There are several waterfalls located around this 1 ¼ mile trail. The museum will provide you with a map that marks the waterfalls as well as some of the other interesting Civil War History.
The trail itself is very easy to walk. It is all pretty much flat. You can get to the largest waterfall as well as the dam without having to leave the main trail. I will tell you, however that the other waterfalls along the trail are located just off of the lower alternative trail, and it is very difficult to get to with a lot of camera equipment. It will take some teamwork because you have to do a little rock climbing. Someone will need to hold your tripod and camera bag and hand it down to you after you descend. If you are an inexperienced hiker, I do not suggest that you leave the main trail. Please do not try to reach the falls alone. Please stay with a partner or a group.
Be prepared to get wet from the knees down. Wear shoes in the creeks if you decide to wade through the smaller falls. The rocks are very, very slippery… but even more so if you are barefooted. Wear your tennis shoes! I do not suggest flip flops.
Bring plenty of water to drink and possibly a few snacks. If you take your leisurely time, it could take you all of 5 or 6 hours to see all of the falls and shoot all of the sites. If you plan on only shooting the dam and the main falls from the main trailhead, then it is a simple 200 ft walk from the parking lot.
