I need location suggestions for a beach photoshoot on June 8 in
Galveston.

There is an excellent photographer who posts regularly on the
Strobist.com discussions forum -- Don Giannatti (WizWow --
http://www.lighting-e....

He is bringing one of his famous models (Briana) with him and is
looking for suggestions for locations in or near Galveston for a beach
photoshoot on June 8.

Does anybody have any suggestions I can pass on?

Three places come to mind:

Galveston Island State Park http://www.tpwd.state...

Seawolf park (if you are small enough to fit in the sub) and Pelican Island in general has some nice wildlife. http://www.galveston....

Park on the island side and ride the free ferry over to Bolivar and back! Lots of seabirds and a perspective on the island you can only get from the water.

Here's an idea for a future shoot: how much would it cost us to hire a boat to take all the way around the island? we'd have to plan it way ahead to save the money and confirm the date, but it's worth looking into. Does anyone have a boat? I'll buy the gas if someone will buy the cokes and someone else will bring sandwiches, chips, etc.

There are some really nice places around the Galveston Beach area for pictures.

GISP is definitely one of them....whether you're on bay side or gulf side.

There is also the East End of the island. Follow 45 until it turns into Broadway, go all the way to the end, and turn left. You'll pass the McDonald's and head on out. There is the new housing area on the right, directly across from Cherry Hill and there is a gazebo with a long walkway to the beach there.

There is also Big Reef Nature Preserve that is even further out at the end there. When you reach the end of the main road (turn right and it will curve around) ...there is a bridge over one of the little inlets, and a point of land with lots of nice beach area and dunes. There is also a bird observatory deck there as well. It's a nice area with lots of spots for pictures.

Also a nice birding area over by the Coast Guard base off of Ferry Road. It's a bit of a walk into the area but its nice to wander. There are no vehicles allowed in this area so it may be more headache than its worth.

We also have some nice areas here on my campus. (which is on the way to Seawolf Park) There are inlets and waterways around our beach with the drawbridge in the background, its pretty cool.

Hope this helps.
