I use the Canon 20D, and yes it's a DSLR. I always recommend people buy the best they can afford, but I started out with a 3 mp camera that gave me great 8x10 pictures. Nikon, Canon, and Olympus are all good DSLRs, with Nikon being the most expensive and Olympus the least expensive for the same number of megapixels. If you have a film SLR, you may be able to use your old lenses by buying digital from the same manufacturer.
