Song title for the month "lady in red"
At least 5 must be shot specifically for the brief over the coming month. The rest can be shot to the brief or come from your library of past shots.
Each month, 14 different words and phrases are posted on the brief for the meeting. Each person is free to interpret the words in any way they choose through camera's lens.
You can do as many, or as few as you like. Multiples of the same word is OK too!
Just be prepared to show them to the group and and briefly talk about each one.
- How does the image relate to the word?
- Where did you take the shot and how did you set it up? or was it candid?
- What you like about the shot
- what you would like to have improved
Remember - prints preferred, although I always bring along a laptop if you bring along digital files.
At every meeting :
1. Bring along 2 or 3 or more of your favourite pictures you have taken for the month to show to the group for kudos / feedback / questions. This is a great way to learn from what others have done and to improve your own technique. Prints are preferred (it is nice if they are enlarged a bit), but I also bring along a laptop for thumbdrives.
2. A brief photographic assignment is set each month ("14 Things") and group members are encouraged to have a crack at it. Bring along your results to share with the group for some fun and to see how others approached the same project. Again prints preferred, but the laptop will be there!
3. A professional photographer will attend occasionally to discuss a particular area of interest to the group and to answer questions. This will be a casual affair, not a big formal death by powerpoint session! How often I can get someone to attend will depend on how many arms I can twist.
4. Share tips on gear / websites / books / etc - if you have bought something new, bring it along. We all want to know how useful it has been and how you rate it. No preparation necessary (unless you like preparing!) - just pull out your new toy and run us through it.
5. Have fun, enjoy the company.
Once you RSVP, check the meetup details for the "14 Things" brief for the month, should you wish to have a go at it, along with some very quick guidelines on talking on images and giving feedback. If you give your permission, I will scan the photos / take digital files you bring to the meeting and upload them to the group website. At the end of the year, it would be fantastic to print an annual book of the group's pictures on Qoop or Apple.com.
Don Mateo's is a very quiet, but groovy wine bar in Richmond. The also serve great coffee too. It is next to Olmec's Restaurant, on Bridge Rd between Lord and Coppin Street. I recommend parking in Palmer Street (runs parallel with Bridge rd), which always has heaps of unlimited parking on a weekday night. Tram stop is #20 on the 48 or 75 Tram from the city.
I love photography and started this group to share and learn from others in a safe and casual environment. I look forward to meeting you and your images!
Regards, Damian
