Cinco de Mayo Celebration & Chihuahua Races


The 11th Annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration honors the Hispanic community's many contributions to the City of Chandler. The festival also features the popular Chihuahua Races and the crowning of the King and Queen Chihuahua.

Saturday, May 3, 2008
Noon to 8 p.m.
Downtown Chandler Library Plaza
100 E. Commonwealth Ave.

Cost: The event and races are free; food and beverages available for purchase

There will be music, entertainment, vendors, Chihuahua races and the crowning of the King and Queen Chihuahua. Races run from 6 to 7 p.m. with the Chihuahua coronation from 7 to 8 p.m.

Sign-in for the Chihuahua races begins at 1 p.m. and is open to the first 150 dogs. The entry fee is $10. The first-place winner will receive a one-night stay at the Crowne Plaza San Marcos Golf Resort. Winners and runners-up will receive plaques and certificates. The event and competition are sponsored by the Chandler Coalition for Civil and Human Rights, Inc. (C3HR). Sponsors of the 2008 Cinco de Mayo festivities include the Chandler Republic, City of Chandler, El Dorado High School and Petco.

3 to 3:30 p.m. - How Cool is Jazz

12:15 to 1 p.m. - Folklor y Cultura Mexicana (dancers)
1:15 to 2 p.m. - Mariachi Juvenil de Guadalupe
2:15 to 3 p.m. - Chandler High Folklorico group
3:15 to 3:40 p.m. - Nena Lucero
4 to 4:45 p.m.- Los Reynosos
5 to 5:45 p.m. - Mariachi group
