I'll be the one with a camera and sipping a Hefe Weizen while perusing the News & Review for our "best bet" locations.

As our "first" Second Saturday outing, I am envisioning this as a casual Artwalk with a group of peeps who also happen to carry cameras and take great pictures.
In the spirit of keeping things casual, I am going to strongly discourage the use of tripods or monopods or knee-pads or anything else that draws more attention than just carrying a camera with a zoom lens attached already does. Our mission is to blend into the background and catch all the activity and scenery and it's inhabitants in its natural environment. We can also make inquiries and test the waters for opportunities for possibly more aggressive 'photo opportunities' in the future.

We have to respect the "art" of the other artists and consider how they may feel about a swarm of people snapping pictures of their work without knowing how it's going to be used.

So that all said, I'm sure it will be a great time. It is strongly recommended that first-timers begin the Artwalk from the corner of 18th & L Street so I thought we could start one block down at the corner of 17th & L Streets at Crepeville with some good eats before starting off.

As more specific information becomes available as to the various artists and gallery showings and where the live entertainment might be, I will update the message board.

In the meantime, I posted a map of the participating galleries in the Files section and you can look here for some more general information. (Keep in mind that our event is two Second-Saturdays away so the website isn't going to list our event yet.)

I lost the group early in the walk. Great night shots, Brian. Looking forward to the next event.

Missed the group, but enjoyed the Artwalk. Wish I knew where the best galleries were. Did anyone find photography in a gallery?

So very sorry to miss this and am still trying to sneak it in if I can get back in time. But be sure to look for the drummers and samba dancers winding around through the streets of Midtown during the Artwalk. They will be starting at Zanzibar's but will be on the move from there and will be a fabulous opportunity to photograph artists in motion! (without the concerns of taking pics in galleries) Be sure to check out: http://www.2nd-sat.com/art-... for the most recent info & cheap parking!

A casual observer, who just happens to have a camera slung over my shoulder.

Hey Grant, hope you enjoy your first Second Saturday experience. My experience is that each experience is different and that's what makes it so great! Are you going as a photog or casual observer? Keep us posted.

Who attended?

    •  It was very nice and I liked the environment, but it wasn't very easy for photography as you don't know how the artists feel about taking pictures of their arts. But totally, I enjoyed the event.
