Painting With Light ( Photography )

"Painting with Light" images are created by using a darkened room during a long exposure then using a flashlight as the only source of light. To understand the technique it may help to think of the light as paint, the flashlight as the paintbrush, and the surfaces in the room (flowers, skin, floor) as the canvas. The camera records the painting as it happens. A quick sweep of the flashlight facing towards the camera produces a thin white line. Illuminating a calf or a thigh sculpts a leg from a black wall. Moving the model during the exposure stretches, bulges and severs limbs.
