Our Stanley Park Romp worked out well so I thought we could try an urban version.

The details for this Romp are light right now because I'm not that familiar with Granville Island. I figure we can meet after lunch, walk around and take photos of people, architecture, birds, etc, and then as the light fades we can move inside to the public markets and try some candids or still lifes/macros. Finally, we can go for a drink and maybe supper (optional, of course, because Granville Island is expensive).

If anyone is more familiar with the location please let me know. I'm interested in a good place to meet and info on where to park for people who have to drive.

I hope everyone's holidays were good. I almost got stuck at the ferry terminal last night after the blizzard hit and the buses stopped running. Happily, though, a taxi and a #10 bus got me home.

I don't know if I'll have any Christmas photos to show for our first meeting of 2009, but I can show a 13x19 print of a photo I took with my old 6 megapixel Nikon D70. It's a good example of how great prints can be made even with "old" cameras.

The format will be the same as the previous meetings. People can bring half a dozen or so prints and we'll go around the table and talk about them. Laptops are also fine, but you should spend some time before the meeting to select the photos you want to show. We can also spend some time talking about editing techniques, gear, and local events.

The Central Library has 6-person meeting rooms which can be rented for free by the public. We'll meet on the 4th Level, in front of the Information desk. If you arrive late please call me at 604-802-6445 to find out which meeting room we are in.

The 13x19 satin-matte paper I was waiting for arrived a week ago, but after a single print my printer ran out of black ink, so I've been left twiddling my thumbs until now. I think I will have a few big prints to show at this meeting... maybe not new stuff, but at least they'll be big!

I'll have one or two 4x6s from the recent Stanley Park Romps. I wish I could do some 13x19s, but the paper I ordered hasn't arrived yet.

The first Stanley Park Romp was such a success that Peter said we should do another. I couldn't agree more. And this time I plan on finding that stream!

Normally what I do is walk through the parts of Stanley Park which were opened up because of the windstorm in 2006. I've taken photos of trees, plants, mushrooms, streams, and even a shoe or two. Animals are hard to take photos of, except for squirrels, of course. If you have a macro lens (or a macro mode on your camera) then this is a good place to use it.

I think the following items are required:

- hiking boots.
- gloves.
- umbrella.
- plastic bag for your camera in case it rains.

The following is optional:

- tripod (but is needed to take photos of water and in the dark parts of the forest).

We can meet at the X-Spot Cafe at the corner of Robson and Denman. I can be reached at 604-802-6445 if you need more information.

Lately I've been channeling Ansel Adams and have been wandering through Stanley Park, looking for interesting flora. Someone at last night's meeting suggested that I create a meetup and invite everyone.

I'm back from my vacation in the south-Okanagan and have photos of horses, deer, and fall colors. Hopefully the yellow ink for my B9180 arrives soon so I can print them...
